Slice of Lime
CEO and Founder Kevin Menzie started the Boulder-based user experience (UX) strategy and user interface (UI) design firm in 2001. Until 2012, the only office was in Boulder.
Then came the inaugural
Denver Startup Week
in October 2012. Slice of Lime was a sponsor. "It became obvious we needed to be in Denver," says Menzie. "Half of our employees live in Denver and being able to attract new employees is huge, especially with the construction on U.S. 36. I have candidates tell me, 'I can't work in Boulder -- it has to be in Denver.'"
It follows that Slice of Lime opened an office in
Galvanize
in fall 2012. The company has has boosted its Denver staff from one employee in late 2012 to eight employees today. Now it has 17 employees in all, and Menzie says he expects to hire a pair of UX/UI designers and a web developer by year's end. The new hires can work from either Denver or Boulder.
Galvanize has proven a great match, says Menzie, aside from the fact that it might be too popular for its own good -- conference rooms are hard to come by. "We bump into people we know and people we want to know," he says. "We're really loving it there."
Slice of Lime clients include "startups to big brands," Menzie says, including TechStars, Orbotix, SendGrid, NewsGator, MapQuest and Qdoba.
"We were five employees two years ago and now we're 17," he adds. "All of a sudden the world has embraced good user experience and good user interface design."
