RentBits growing at Galvanize and eying potential move to Galvanize 2.0

CEO Dan Daugherty co-founded RentBits in 2007 with Chief People Officer Lisa Ray. The company recently moved to Denver and is looking to hire four new employees by Q2.

"We were in DTC for seven years, and we moved to Galvanize last October," says Daugherty. "We decided we needed more interaction to spur our creativity."

The company currently has 14 employees in Denver and four outside of Colorado. "We are the largest company in terms of people at Galvanize," says Daugherty. "We could probably have 20 or 22 in the space." He says Galvanize's coming second Denver location would be a natural move if they need more space in 2014, but he's experienced with close quarters.

"I was in Google in 2002 when we had 300 employees," adds Daugherty. "We worked five or six to a cubicle. We're used to cramped spaces."

After moving to Colorado in 2005, Daugherty invested in a number of rental properties and saw property managers needing tools to market their properties online. "We built technology that syndicates and posts apartment listings to 10 sites at once," he says.

RentBits has since launched a renter-facing search engine for available properties. New in 2013 is ResidentBuddy.com, a renter's portal that allows for payment and communication. Multi-family units subscribe to the service for $1 per unit per month.

RentBits has 5,000 customers in all, including multi-family buildings, a wide range of property managers and 16 of the 20 largest real-estate investment trusts in the U.S.
