Founded in January 2011,
Indaba Group has emerged as the region's top
Magento development shop and a top 10 worldwide partner for the e-commerce platform.
Executive Chief Ryan Shields, one of three co-founders, says he expects the 16-employee company to add four new employees as soon as possible and another two-to-four by the end of 2013.
“Our No. 1 principle is we choose our customers as much as they choose us,” Shields says. “Not all business is good business. That strategy has paid off.”
Magento “is the fastest growing e-commerce platform worldwide,” says Shields. The fact that it was recently acquired by
eBay “brings a virtually unlimited R&D budget to keep it ahead of the curve."
“We've certainly carved out a reputation for handling high-profile, high volume, high-availability websites,” says Shields, citing work for TheBlaze.com and Little Passports. “We have a diverse client base, but our sweet spot is making sure our clients' websites are available through peaks and troughs that are usual and unusual. We push Magento to its limits without breaking it.”
Beyond Magento, Indaba Group also works with Expression Engine for client content-management needs, but Shields says that work tends to be more custom than the Magento projects.
Amidst Denver's startup culture, Indaba seeks to become “a pinwheel of information and collaboration” for Magento developers. Recently relocating from the Golden Triangle to a converted warehouse in RiNo, the company hosted an e-commerce forum that was co-branded with Magento and Indaba in late 2012.
“We're certainly going to do more of those,” Shields says.
