Crowd Favorite
WordPress-centric web developer Crowd Favorite is mergingwith Los Angeles-based
VeloMedia
.
The new company is will be based in Denver and has a total of 40 employees, with nearly half of them in Denver.
"They have an interesting model," says Crowd Favorite Founder Alex King. VeloMedia's plan has been to scale with small offices of three to 10 employees in offices in L.A., Las Vegas, Rome, and Bucharest, Romania. These offices could grow more, says King, but will max out at about 15 to 18 employees.
"Our teams overlap nicely," he says, touting Crowd Favorite's technical expertise and VeloMedia's strong services.
King will serve as the merged company's CTO and VeloMedia's Karim Marucchi has relocated to Denver as CEO. Clients include National Geographic (Crowd Favorite) and Disney (VeloMedia). The merger is expected to close in Jan. 2014.
King says Marucchi has 20 years of interactive experience, noting, "This is the last company he wants to build."
Crowd Favorite will add three positions in Denver in the near term: an office manager, a front end developer and a web-app designer.
The company then will continue to employ the VeloMedia model and look for additional opportunities for new offices.
"That's the goal -- to continue to open offices where we find people who share our values," says King. "I feel good about where we're at and where the company is going."
