CO2Nexus cleans fabric with liquid carbon dioxide, nearly zero-waste

Founded in 2009, CO2Nexus is rolling out innovative fabric-cleaning technology with plans to grow in Denver, says Communications and Marketing Manager Erin Normile-Elzinga.

"We use liquid carbon dioxide as a cleaning method -- and that's all," says Normile-Elzinga. "Nothing goes down the drain. There isn't even a drain. Everything is captured on board."

The waste can be used for biofuel applications after capture.

Normile-Elzinga says the technology has applications for industrial laundries, dry cleaners and large employers. "It's aggressive on stains but very gentle on the fabric. It's great for cleaning applications you wouldn't otherwise be able to do." She highlights hospitals, hotels and prisons as potential customers

The eight-employee company is currently in pilot mode at a few locations and will begin manufacturing in Denver later in 2013. After hiring two employees in the first quarter, CO2Nexus is moving to a larger facility on the north side of  the city to accommodate growth.

FeyeCon, the parent company of CO2Nexus, is based in The Netherlands, but CO2Nexus is firmly planted in Denver.

"Being a cleantech company, Colorado just seems to have it going on," says Normile-Elzinga, citing support from the state and a talented workforce. "Denver's been great for us business-wise."
