Founded by Richard Rainaldi and Charles "Chic" Naumer in 2000, the 13-employee
CiviCore is hiring two new staffers in early 2013. "The sooner, the better," says Naumer.
Prior to CiviCore, both Rainaldi and Naumer had backgrounds in nonprofit management, and Naumer also worked in technology and brought that skill set to the company.
But the nonprofit world needed to play technological catch-up in CiviCore's early years. "When we first got started, there were a lot of nonprofits not yet connected to the Internet," says Naumer. "For a couple of years we had to help them with basic infrastructure."
Today it's a different story. CiviCore now offers a wide range of solutions to nonprofits and public agencies, including systems for scholarships, mentoring programs, and volunteer management.
"We've gone after niches," says Rainaldi. "The nonprofit world is very diverse and there are literally millions of them. Now we have about 400 clients around the country and some international business."
The company also built the platform for
GivingFirst and
Colorado Gives Day and seen donations grow from six figures to nearly $16 million in five years. "We've grown with them," says Naumer.
CiviCore just inked "a really exciting deal" with
MENTOR, a 5,000-member mentoring association, says Naumer. "Our software facilitates the matching of mentors and menthes and tracks that relationship over time."
Volunteer management is another sweet spot for the company. "We have a niche with food banks, as well as environmental-stewardship organizations," says Rainaldi.
"People seem a little more willing to spend money, coming out of the dark years," says Rainaldi of business thus far in 2013. "Mentoring is a growth area. Same with scholarships. Those are two areas we want to be involved in."
